Congratulations Coach David Nuñez!
Over the years, longtime Organ Mountain High School cross-country coach David Nunez has guided the cross-country program for the Knights for nearly 30 years.
Since then, he was named the 2021 coach of the year for 5A boys cross-country by the New Mexico Track and Cross-Country Coaches Association.
Nunez was also named as an All-Star Cross-Country coach for this years’ 2022-2023 inaugural All-Star Cross-Country event.
During his career, Nunez has guided the Knights to numerous District Titles.
He has led 17 district wins for boys cross-country, and 13 district wins for girls cross-country.
With a total of 30 District Championship titles for Organ Mountain High School.
This year, the New Mexico High School Coaches Association Board of Directors, selected Coach David Nunez as the 2023 coach of the year for girls’ cross-country.
Congratulations to Mason Carmona from OMHS for competing in the Desert Light Film Festival and winning the "Best in Festival Award" for his music video, "Interlude."
Mason was recognized for his achievement last month by the Las Cruces Public Schools Board of Education.
Lauren Apodaca, a fifth grade teacher at East Picacho Elementary School was nominated for the 2023-2024 Life Changer of the Year Award!
Lauren Apodaca was nominated by someone who wants to stay anonymous.
Mx. Apodaca is the definition of excellence in education. They are constantly working on adding to their school's atmosphere by organizing community-wide events, leading girls to join STEM careers through an afterschool program, and being a leader in every opportunity presented.
In Mx. Apodaca's six years of teaching, they have been a union representative, team leader, and member of district-wide leadership teams to improve science in LCPS.
Mx. Apodaca is committed to creating and maintaining a safe and nurturing classroom environment. They have completed projects to keep a hygiene pantry in their classroom to help students access hygiene products such as toothpaste, body wash, and hair combs. Mx. Apodaca also focuses on creating a classroom environment that encourages students to be their most authentic selves.
"Every student that has the honor of being in Mx. Apodaca's classroom is forever changed and leaves the classroom with the confidence to be a successful and empathetic human," said the nominator.

Dear parents and guardians, several schools at LCPS have gone into a shelter-in-place due to inclement weather and lightning detected within 10 miles of our schools.
Upon the occurrence of lightning at dismissal time, students who drive may be released based on principal’s discretion. All bus riders and walkers will be sheltered until the area is deemed safe.
If you are picking up your child while a school is sheltering in place due to weather, you may do so at your own risk. We apologize for the inconvenience.

This week was Professional Dress Day! Shout out to LCPS High School ACE students as they completed ACE orientation. Right now ACE students are practicing soft skills such as introductions, handshaking, eye contact and working on their résumés. Keep up the good work, ACE students!

Under the guidance of Head Coach Teyna Montoya, the Organ Mountain volleyball team is gaining a lot of experience in the summer months. The court time will help during the upcoming competitive season.

Welcome back to school incoming kindergarteners, sixth graders, and freshmen! We hope you had a terrific summer break.
Today is transition day at Las Cruces Public Schools as students make their way back to the classrooms.
On Thursday, LCPS will welcome all students back to school for in person learning. It’s going to be a great new school year!
Parents and guardians, if your child still needs to get their immunization shots, join us during the Take a Shot immunization clinic! The first 150 kids will receive a soccer ball and a chance to win cool prizes from NMSU and the Somos Unidos Foundation. This free event is at Organ Mountain High School on Monday and Tuesday, July 17-18 and Wednesday and Thursday, July 19-20 at the LCPS Administrative Office, 505 S. Main Street.

Just a friendly reminder, July 19th will be a transition day back to school for Kindergarten, 6th, and 9th graders.
The first day back to school for all other grade levels is July 20th.
