The Organ Mountain High School track and field team brought home the gold after competing in the NMAA 5A Track and Field State Championships in Albuquerque over the weekend.

The Knights led the charge at the track and field events, taking 1st place with five new state champions.

However, that’s not all, Organ Mountain went on to break three 5A state records, and shattered their own state record, set last year by 10 seconds, for the boys 800-meter relay.

Congratulations to the boys’ 800-meter relay for setting a new state record of 7:52:91, athletes are:

Jeron Wisner

Jake Medina

Nohi Leyva

Corbin Coombs

Congratulations to Corbin Coombs for setting a new 5A State record for the 1600-meter race of 4:06:17 he also happens to be the defending state champion from last year in the same event.

While competing at state, Corbin also took 1st place becoming the state champion for the 800-meter race with a time of 1:53:96. Congratulations, Corbin.

On to the 5A State Champion for the high jump, congratulations to Yeh-Nhi Wilson, our 2024 5A State Champion for the high jump.

Yeh-Nhi earned a gold medal after leaping up six feet and six inches into the air, locking in 1st place. Yeh-Nhi is wrapping up his senior year and has signed to play college basketball for Eastern New Mexico University.

The Knights had one more state champion, this time, for the girls 5A Javelin throw. That champion was Shaolin Munir.

Shaolin set a 5A state record for throwing her javelin 165 feet and 4 inches.

Shaolin broke her own state record, set last year, for the 5A javelin throw by over 22 feet. Shaolin is in her senior year and signed with Duke University to continue her legacy of the javelin throw.

Las Cruces High School:

*Note: Las Cruces High School set three new state records

From Las Cruces High School… Now, if this next name sounds familiar, it’s because she’s a four-time state champion for the Bulldawgs.

I’m talking none other than Kaselle Davis. Kaselle earned first place for the 100-meter sprint, she took first place for the 200-meter sprint, then went on to earn first place and break the record for the 400-meter sprint and somehow found the energy to set a new 5A state record for the high jump. Congratulations, Kaselle!

Las Cruces High School had one more athlete earn the title for state champion, Isaiah Vallejos. Isaiah sprinted to the finish line, taking 1st in the 200-meter dash.

Congratulations to all of our 2024 state champions.
